Student life is a period of unique change filled with many challenges. As a member of the VIU community you have the opportunity to support students who may be struggling with issues that affect their academic performance and well-being. In this workshop you will learn to recognize signs of distress, respond effectively and refer students to appropriate resources. This workshop includes conversation about the stressors students might be experiencing, and implications those stressors could have if left unaddressed. This might include suicide, which is a leading cause of death in youth. Our goal is to give you information and support. Come learn how you are a part of VIU’s web of well-being so that if you do encounter a student in distress and/or who shares thoughts of suicide you will have the confidence and tools to respond.
