Nanaimo’s 3rd annual women’s rights demonstration marches in solidarity with others across the globe for transformative social change.n non-violent resistance to gender-based violence and oppression.

Nanaimo Women March On musters at Maffeo Sutton Park at 11 walking and chanting en route to the Nanaimo Entertainment Centre (the former Capris Theatre), 46 Nichol Street.

This local event is an organic, grassroots effort to give voice and political power to the concerns of a diverse community of women and to bring together people of all races, religions, ages, genders, and abilities around these and other common concerns:
• action and justice for missing and murdered women
• sustainable funding of women’s organizations
• homelessness and poverty
• senior vulnerability
• LGBTQ+ rights
• disability rights

Speakers from local organizations like Lifeline, VIU Disability Rights, Central Vancouver Island Multicultural Society, Women's Centre, Haven, and Generation Q will address these issues with calls to action. Performers include Eva Manley, Tracy Myers, Tami Nutting, Joan Ryan, sb smith, Lesley Anne Clarke, Justice Chalifoux, Sonnet L'Abbe, Kyrsten April, Sue Averill and Rim Shin. Lauren Semple from Nanaimo Pride Society will emcee. Information about these services and others will be available at tables and the NEC.

A map of the route including an alternative route for those with disabilities, an ASL interpreter, and accessibility seating are available.

Nanaimo Women March On is spearheaded by local activists and organizations, including Deborah Hollins (Nanaimo Family Life Association), Anouk Borris and Chantelle Spicer (VIU Students’ Union), Lauren Semple (Nanaimo Pride Society), Melissa Stephens and Joy Gugeler (VIU Faculty Association), Chantal Lambert (Haven Society), and Lesley Anne Clarke and Chantale Roelens (Nanaimo Women’s Centre).
