A Studio is a meeting of 6-8 faculty in a room where everyone commits to learning and sharing their insights or questions about the topic under study. During this session participants will identify specific challenges related to the use of student collaboration, pose inquiries to deepen collective understanding, and offer solutions for all to draw from.

To group or not to group. Sometimes students thrive in a collaborative environment; and sometimes they crash and burn. What are our choices as teachers? Which approaches to “group work” can actively promote cohesion and respectful collaboration? What do we do to mitigate conflict when it arises?

Bring your cases and ideas for teaching with student groups, and share practices with colleagues on how to create a classroom culture that supports students’ natural inclination to work together.

Lunch will be provided.
