Making Choices for Student Engagement and Learning

The purpose of the New Faculty Orientation to Teaching at VIU is to introduce you to resources for designing learning experiences for your students, to explore best practices for fostering critical thinking in students, and to provide you with an opportunity to meet colleagues from across the disciplines at VIU. We will address several core ideas for teaching successfully at VIU, and also indicate what technologies are available at VIU to support your teaching.

What are the benefits of participating in the New Faculty Orientation to Teaching at VIU? Concrete ideas for:

Making the most of the first day of class
Designing classroom activities that challenge students to think critically
Empowering students to take greater responsibility for their learning
Engaging your students in productive discussions
Locating and using the technologies for teaching and learning that will help you achieve targeted learning
Audience | This event is open to anyone, but we especially welcome those teaching faculty members with less than 2 years of teaching experience and those new to VIU.
