Join us in the lead up to International Women's Day 2020 for Nanaimo’s 5th Wikipedia Edit-a-thon & Community of Practice Meet up!

International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women - while also marking a call to action for accelerating gender equality. The International Women's Day 2020 campaign theme is #EachforEqual:

An equal world is an enabled world.

Individually, we're all responsible for our own thoughts and actions - all day, every day.

We can actively choose to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women's achievements.

Collectively, each one of us can help create a gender equal world.

Wikipedia is one of the largest websites on the internet with more than 40 million articles in more than 250 different languages. Anyone can edit, yet Wikipedia consistently faces criticism for lack of diverse representation both among editors and in content. As Wikipedia contributors and editors we can make positive change and help to create a gender equal world by challenging stereotypes, fighting bias, broadening perceptions, and celebrating women's achievements, and by doing this work informed by feminist ethics such as ethics of care.

The editathon is an inclusive event, and everyone is welcome. No previous editing skills or Wikipedia knowledge required — all skill levels from the novice, to the more experienced Wikipedians, are encouraged to take part. We’ll cover the basics of editing on this platform and support you as you explore and get to work editing live content that matters to you on Wikipedia.
